This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends."
Love has many meanings. The first one is of kinship the way one loves their friends the enjoyment of those they are around we all have people in this category. Whether it be through those we go to work or school with, those we live with or those who we worship with. The other is family love. The way which a mother or father loves a child and those in your family. The third is romantic love the way in which a husband loves their spouse a boyfriend to a girlfriend etc. The final one is of admiration those who we strive to be like. As I read this I thought how this applies to me. Thinking of all these types of love It reminds me of the verse This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. John 16, 12-13 says “No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends." God has shown us all these types of love and we should emulate how those loves are to those we live around and those who we call “friends”. Friends aren’t only the people which you hang out with all the time but all the people around you, even if they are your enemy. or we should strive for them to be. Even your enemies should be your friends. This is something that is so confounding. We would all think how can I love someone who hates me? We question it because it is hard but we must follow this Just as the scripture says in Matthew 5:43-48 43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor[a] and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.” The thing that probably scares people the most about this is where it says be perfect but I believe when it says be perfect the mean to have a perfect effort. We will always make mistakes that's why we are human and not God so all we can do is make a perfect effort. So as god has shown us to love we should love those around us whether they are our friends or our enemies because in the end they are still our friends even if they don’t know it yet. So love, love the way god has shown us, and give all your love to all.
