Research Information

Research Question

Can technological innovation capabilities help supply chains reduce environmental impact, improve resource utilization and promote product innovation and diversification? This can help organizations optimize logistics, reduce costs and impact on the environment.

Groups Studied

60 experts in Iran from 2 academicians and practitioners to complete a questionnaire in 27 responses within 14 weeks. Experts came from the following industries: pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, information technology and communications, nanotechnology, oil and gas technology, agriculture technology, and medical devices.

Variables

Variables that were observed were top management commitment to implementing the different tactics. It appeared that resource allocation capability could encourage top management to support of sustainable supply chain management. Reassurances were needed in flexibility and diversity of capital origin and availability of acquired human resources and technologies for implementation.

Results

The study found that all technological innovation have a positive and significant impact on sustainable supply chain management implementation and its internal barriers. The study also showed that all capabilities have almost the same effect on sustainable supply chain management.

Discussion

We can use this study to compare Iran to other countries. Evidence is found that in other countries such as China companies as well as governments embrace the use of technology to achieve sustainable supply chain management. This improvement also helps in bringing down logistical costs, reduce environmental pollution. Iranian’s run into issues with their relatively weak technological advancement which will make it harder to implement these tactics.

Background Information and Use of Statistics

The following section will provide information on the study depicting the statistics which were involved to reach the conclusion that all technological innovation has a positive and significant impact on sustainable supply chain management.

Statistics Mentioned

The sample size was 60 experts from two groups of academicians and practitioners’. Statistics where found using ones sample t-tests on sustainable supply chain management implementation and barriers on each of the tactics. Barriers included learning capabilities, research and development capabilities, resource allocation capabilities, manufacturing capabilities, marketing capabilities, organizing capabilities and strategic planning capabilities. P-values were much larger than 0.05 showing that technological innovations have significant impacts on internal barriers.
