UndocuSTEM Project

The UndocuSTEM project will be held at at California State University of Long Beach to help undocumented high school, undergraduate and graduate students explore more of the STEM field and how it affects those who are undocumented as well as provide them with the tools in order to be successful in the these fields . The project started on the campus of California State University of Los Angeles one year ago and through its success in showing its usefulness for students it has continued this year at the campus of Cal State Long Beach. This project focuses on getting students interested in the STEM fields by providing multiple workshops to increase their interests in those field and provide workshops for tools to better prepare them to succeed. This workshops open students eyes by showing them skills such as how to apply to college, grad school and PhD programs. This is the first step in getting into the STEM fields and furthering their knowledge and increasing their interest.Other workshops include how to get funding for their education. This is important for students because in order for them to further their interest they need to make sure that they have the appropriate funds. Those who are not citizens of America and are on the DACA program tend to find it difficult to find programs to fund their education due to their lack of citizenship. These workshops help them find other ways in order to fund their education as well as stick to their interest in the STEM field. Workshops also show students how the issues of social justice affect them in the STEM field. The workshop focus upon how the efforts of social justice affect them in the STEM field. This opens their eyes to how whatever goes on to fight for social justice can affect how the furthering of their education can be and how important it is for them to be involved in social justice because it will affect them. These funds will be useful in furthering the goal of UndocuSTEM by helping them have the tools to provide to students to further their pursuit in the STEM field.
